"Distributor Self-Promotion" is the term used for when you order a promotional item from a factory for your own use that has your name on it.
Don't be concerned the promotional product supplier will think you are the end user and not sell it to you. In fact you are the end user, but this is the one exception to the
rule that factories do not sell to end users.
Factories will typically give you a better price than their normal catalog pricing on these orders. The reason is that you are promoting their product by
using it to promote yourself. Sometimes, they may even give you "End Quantity Pricing" (EQP) so it's always a good idea to ask for "End Quantity Pricing"
anytime you are doing a self promotion as you might get it.
("End Quantity Pricing" means you get the lowest price published in their catalog even though you are not ordering the quantity that would normally be
required to get that pricing. "End Quantity" means the last column with the lowest prices on the grid.) Even if they don't offer you the "End Quantity Pricing" discount, you should expect at least some discount.
If the item is large enough, like 3 ring binders, it is common for the promotional product supplier to require their line name or item number to be on the item as they did last
time I ordered 3 ring binders.
Having their name on my binders was fine with me and that way they get their products promoted too which is how they justify giving you the discount. Make sure to check their policy on this point when discussing your discount with the promotional product supplier.
It makes sense for you to use promotional products to promote your business to your customers as that is what you are telling them to do when they use your services. Do it right and you will save yourself substantial dollars!
