How to Get Your Full Price and Increase Your Profit Margin
This article is designed to show businesses how to make money by offering
promotional products to their customers and also to help those already selling
promotional products to be more effective.
Have you had clients like the promotion and product you suggested and then hit you up for a discount from the catalog price?
Here's a simple 2-step process to prevent that and increase your profit margin.
When making your presentation, present a higher quality product and a larger quantity than you expect them to buy.
1. |
Suggest Higher Quality.
Suggest a $6.00 high-end mug instead of the 99¢ promotional version. If they want to spend less, go down to an ironstone mug at $3.49, or lastly a regular ceramic at $2.49. If you start with high quality you always have room to move. Instead of discounting your profit margin, find them a less expensive product
and sell at full margin. If they beat you down from a $6.00 mug to a $2.49, odds are they will not try to get you to give a discount off the catalog price. Definitely don't offer that, reduce the quality level instead.
2. |
Suggest Higher Quantity.
Instead of a 144-mug minimum order, recommend 1,008 instead. Help your client see how they could make a better promotion by giving out more product to get
better results. You will be helping them track it, won't you?
The above examples use mugs, but apply equally well for any promotional product.
In addition to making sure you get your full profit margin on whatever you end up selling, sometimes a client will surprise you and buy the quality and quantity
you recommend. Then you just got yourself a very nice order!
